Alton Bay resident Teri Ann Cox has been hired as the executive director of The Children’s Center, effective July 1, 2017. An ice cream social for the public to welcome her will be held Sunday, June 25, from 1 to 3 p.m. at The Barn at O’Bistro.

Cox most recently worked for Alton Central School for four years as an educational assistant in full-day kindergarten. She has also been a special education one-on-one para professional during two of Alton’s extended school-year programs. Prior to that, she spent 22 years with Hallmark Cards, Inc in Kansas City, where she was a senior vice president, providing organizational leadership for nearly 1000 creative professionals, and managing large-scale budgets and community relations.

She earned a bachelor of fine arts degree from Syracuse University, then a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Missouri - Kansas City. She is a master’s of education candidate, with a concentration in English Language Arts, from Plymouth State University.

Cox has had comprehensive experience with two nonprofit boards. Locally, she coordinates team and league sponsorship for the Alton Youth League. She has successfully attained grant monies for field equipment and on-going development, and established a scholarship fund for players in need.

“I am honored and thrilled to be stepping into the leadership role at The Children’s Center and look forward to working with the talented staff and dedicated board that make The Center the special place it is," Cox said. "Together with the team, parents, and stakeholders, we have the opportunity to create an exciting new chapter in The Children’s Center’s development. I can’t wait to get started."

Cox and her family relocated back to New England five years ago from the Midwest to be closer to her parents. She resides in Alton Bay with her husband, Bill, and 13-year-old son, Christopher.
