March Newsletter 2026
Teri Ann Cox
Executive Director of The Children’s Center
Dear Center Families,
Did you know that March is National Reading Month? It was first celebrated in 1994 and was designated to pay tribute to the world’s beloved children’s book author Dr. Suess, who was born on March 2, 1904. The month has now become an important opportunity to encourage reading every day and to foster a love of books with children. Daily reading is one of the best habits to develop as it strengthens mental muscles that boosts memory, improves comprehension and analytical abilities, and increases imagination. Knowing how to read opens up a world of possibilities for a person. And we all know, reading is fundamental to success in life.
In the month ahead, we will not only be reading lots of Dr. Suess books, but in our preschool program, the “Read It Once Again” curriculum book for March is one of our favorites: If You Give a Mouse a Cookie. Also, we will host our first Family Literacy Night of the year, which will be held on Wednesday, March 11th starting at 5:30 pm. Pizza, salad, and homemade cookies will be served, and our featured book is Don’t Blow Your Top by Ame Dyckman. Supporting our aim of teaching social emotional skills, this children’s book is about Big Volcano and Little Volcano who learn together how to manage anger. Please sign up outside of your child’s classroom and join us for dinner, a special reading, kid’s craft time, and an optional parent/guardian “make & take” activity based on the “Positive Solutions for Families” workshop series. As always, every child will receive a free copy of the featured book to add to their home library.
Let’s welcome spring (on Friday, March 20) and recognize the meaningful difference reading has in our children’s lives. In the words of Dr. Suess, “The more you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”
With kind regards,
Teri Ann
